Taking charge of our food

From the Autumn 2009 GRP Newsletter

Mass Local Food is an example of citizen action for relocalization. The online food co-op was started by Sheryl Vaillette (a member of the Nashua River Green Rainbow local) and two other Central MA women, Kelley O'Connor and Kerrie Hertel. Its mission is to provide an ordering and distribution system that helps Massachusetts farmers, producers, and artisans reach local consumers, bypassing the big national food distribution systems. Local food producers are allowed to post information about their products online after paying a one-time $50 membership fee. Customers go to the website to view, search and order the products. There is a monthly sorting/distribution day at three pick-up sites in Central Massachusetts. For more information, go to www.massfoodcoop.org, e-mail kelleyoconnor@gmail.com or call 978-422-7669.
