Outreach on Earth Day

Berkshire Greens PAC is a major partner of Healing Winds Community Event

by Scott Laugenour

Berkshire Greens PAC participated in the Earth Day Community Event produced by Healing Winds. It was held in Lee on April 23, 2011. Snow and rain in the morning provided a good reason for the organizers to move the event indoors at the First Congregational Church in Lee.

Fair taxes with a community-focused budget, peace, green jobs/green banking, and single payer health care are Green-Rainbow Party messages that connected with many visitors and fellow vendors. Pastors Bill Neal and Natalie Shiras offered introductory remarks on the subject of Earth Day and community which solidly reflect the 10 Key Values that green parties around the world advocate for. Throughout the day various groups, including the Berkshire Greens, offered workshops. Concerts took place on a stage in the adjacent room throughout the day. The organizers did a great job of quickly shifting indoors what was planned as an outdoor event.

At one table the Berkshire Greens PAC sold 'Green Greek' and 'Rainbow' salads, healthy wraps, and sides pasta and potato salad. Thanks Darlene, Holley, Kate, Tim, Mark, Thane, Robyn, Eddie, Kelly, and Wes for all the pre-event, event, and post-event help.
