GRP Does GreenFest
The Green Rainbow Party was a strong presence once again at the Boston GreenFest exposition, a two-day event held annually at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. This year, the GRP’s focus was on promoting our candidates along with our new Democracy Days initiative. The revitalized Boston Local took the lead in manning the table, assisted by campaign volunteers and others from the Boston metro area.

The highlight of the event was what was billed as a “gubernatorial debate,” to which all four candidates were invited. Only the TRUE environmental candidate showed, and Jill Stein turned the hour into a lively town-hall style meeting, fielding questions about the “bottle bill,” Cape Wind wind-farms, the blistering effects of current economic policy in recessionary times, and the role of the GRP in re-creating a thriving democracy. Dr. Stein’s introductory remarks covered the opportunity presented us by a number of converging crises, arguing that climate change and recession allow us to transform our economy by creating new jobs in energy and conservation, local agriculture, a medical infrastructure based on prevention, and public transportation.
