The GRP initiatives Summit will bring GRP groups and activists together behind key critical initiatives to challenge business-as-usual and build on the momentum from the 2010 campaigns. Between nuclear meltdown in Japan, expanding wars for oil, and uprisings for justice from Middle East to Midwest - - crisis and inspiration are colliding like never before. So it’s time to get the GRP front and center as the only political party that’s working for a just, peaceful sustainable future for all. (And the only party not bought off by corporate influence-peddling!)
On April 16, GRP will hold an "initiatives summit" to consider a set of possible initiatives and select up to four for collaborative statewide action. The initiatives will address urgent needs in the community and beyond, and will help locals expand their active membership.
To join the conversation about the initiatives (and more), any GRP member can participate in the “GRP-discuss” list serve. Simply go to this page to join the list, then send emails to grp-discuss@green-rainbow.org.
Please have an advance look at the initiatives under consideration [PDF]. Specific plans will be finalized by initiative committees after the final selection is made at the Summit.
Here's how we currently envision the Summit working. (Some details may change.)
- First, each local chapter and working committee will report on which priority initiatives they have selected for statewide action – and what kinds of actions they would see undertaking as part of each initiative.
- Then we’ll hear from a facilitator for each initiative who will summarize the mission and possible actions for each initiative.
- We’ll then break into caucuses, with each local and working committee constituting a caucus for the purpose of casting a vote. That vote will be taken by an 'instant runoff' ballot listing the 11 major initiatives. There will also be an “Independent” Caucus for people who are not yet affiliated with a local or working committee. Each caucus will rank the initiatives in order of preference.
Members of the GRP who would like to work on GRP initiatives in the coming year are welcome to attend. If you are not yet connected to a local or working committee, this is a good time to get plugged in. We can also help you get jump started if you’d like to join a local but don’t have one in your area.
