>> Minutes
>> Legislative Committee Monthly Call
>> Monday, February 3
>>
>> Committee members present: Barbara Clancy, David Rolde, Mike Heichmann
>> Observing: Josh Gerloff
>>
>>
>>
>> Agenda Items:
>>
>> Endorsing Work and Family Mobility Act H3012/S2061
>>
>> We have already endorsed this bill. Mike was very impressed with Cosecha’s organizing on this issue, their radicalism, and their independence from the Democratic party.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>> Endorsing Safe Communities Act, (H.3573 and S.1401)
>>
>> After discussion, the committee agreed to endorse the bills. Josh agreed to forward the committee’s endorsement to AdCom.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>> Mission statement
>> Barbara will research the state of the last round of edits and send the revised statement around to the group.

>> Interest in organizing/attending shorter legislative training program
>> Josh is interested in the two-day legislative training offered by the Mass Legislature and suggested as many people as possible sign up for available spots in the Fall 2020 session. Barbara knows people who have taken the session and they all thought it was great but the time commitment might be hard for people to take on, so she thought a shorter session could have some appeal. Mike suggested a session at state Convention, probably not this year because of the time frame, but in future years. Barbara is trying to get someone from Mass Jobs with Justice to talk about working with the legislature to the Massachusetts Public Bank group and could also ask about speaking at a GRP workshop of some kind. We decided to not send an email to the GRP list about the legislative trainings.

>> Working with Ad Com
>> Josh gave some pointers on AdCom’s schedule and how to get on its agenda. Meetings are the 2nd and 4th Thursday and the co-chairs draft the agenda. If we need to get an item on the agenda it should be emailed to cochairs at green-rainbow.org, or to Charlene or Maha directly. We can also cc Josh and office at green-rainbow.org.
>>
>> Ideally, according to Josh, Adcom would vote to endorse what we endorse. Then, to inform party members and supporters of the party’s endorsement, someone has to draft an email blast. The blast text would then go to Josh or a communications director to be sent out on Nationbuilder, Facebook and Twitter.
>>
>> The email blast on the MA Indigenous Agenda was critiqued.
>> David noted that the legislative committee doesn’t have an internal procedure for composing blasts. Also he noted that the MA Indigenous Agenda organizers asked us to contact legislators on relevant committees as a party, in writing on party letterhead.
>>
>> Mike asked Josh to send a report to the legislative committee on the open rates for the two email blasts sent about the MA Indigenous Agenda. Josh shared some numbers at the meeting. (note—he has since sent metrics from the original and the resent blast.) It was noted that open rates do not reflect whether individuals took the requested action and made calls.

>>
>> Housing Choice Bill opposition
>> Terra Friedrichs sent around an email with reasons to oppose the Housing Choice bill supported by Gov. Baker and developers. David will call Terra and ask her about the bill.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>> Next meeting will be Monday, March 2.
>> In order to boost participation, Barb will contact people on the legislative committee email list and ask if they are interested in participating.
